For the determination of cleaning and disinfection measures, a differentiation of risk areas is useful.
Frequently touched surfaces (high-touch surfaces) and critical surfaces in healthcare facilities play a major role in the indirect transmission of pathogens. The cleaning and disinfection of surfaces are components of basic hygiene and serve to prevent healthcare-associated infections. There are different risk areas in hospitals and, in turn, different surfaces there. With regard to the individual risk areas, the German Commission for Hospital Hygiene and Infection Prevention (KRINKO) has made recommendations for the routine cleaning and disinfection of surfaces. The respective intervals must be defined in the hygiene plan by the person responsible for hygiene at the facility.
