Mycobacterium basiliense sp. nov.
(bacterium)

Mycobacterium basiliense is an aerobic, Gram-positive bacterium in the Mycobacteriaceae family. It belongs to the nontuberculous (atypical) mycobacteria.

In few cases, Mycobacterium basiliense was found in the respiratory tract of patients with pre-existing lung diseases. The infections were moderate and self-limiting. No resistance to antibiotics was found.

Transmission of Mycobacterium basiliense mainly occurs via droplets or particles in the air.
