Retroviruses

Other term for Retroviridae. In contrast to "normal" viruses, this group of viruses possesses an RNA genome which needs to be retranslated into DNA in the host.

In animals, retroviruses cause the formation of tumours. With regard to humans, the best-known retrovirus is HIV.
