The occlusion effect (Latin: occludere, pp. occlusus = to close up, shut up) occurs when the emission of sweat or heat through the skin is blocked – particularly when the recommended wearing time of protective gloves is exceeded during occupational activities. The hand sweat cannot evaporate, the horny layer swells, the cell structures loosen, and the permeability to harmful substances increases.
