Mycobacteria

Aerobically growing, Gram-positive bacilli. Mycobacteria resist decolourisation with dilute acids and therefore are regarded as acid-fast. Well-known representative of mycobacteria is Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which causes tuberculosis.
