Human metapneumovirus
(enveloped virus)

The Human metapneumovirus belongs to the Paramyxoviridae. The polymorphic RNA-virus has a spherical or fibrous shape. There is a high genetic similarity with the Respiratory syncytial virus.

Especially in cold season, the Human metapneumovirus causes respiratory infections and bronchilitis.

Apart from that, the virus can cause nosocomial respiratory infections.

The transmission of the Human metapneumovirus is still unknown, but airborne transmission is assumed to be the major transmission path.
